About Quilt to Size
Most patterns come in one size and one colorway. Quilt to Size pieces traditional blocks at the size of your bed and works out every cut and every yard.
How a pattern is made
Each block is described as its real patches, the way you would draft it on graph paper. The engine lays the blocks out to fit the bed, adds the border, and draws the quilt from those same patches. The cutting chart, the yardage and the drawing all come from that one layout, so they agree.

How the numbers work
- Seam allowances are 1/4". Squares and strips are cut 1/2" bigger than they finish.
- Half square triangles are cut from squares 7/8" bigger than they finish, two to a pair. Flying geese use the no-waste method, four at a time.
- Pieces of the same fabric and width share strips, longest first, the way you would cut them.
- Yardage assumes 42" of usable width after the selvages and rounds up to the next 1/8 yard with a few inches to straighten the cut.
- Backing adds 4" on every side; binding is 2 1/2" strips for double-fold binding.
The blocks
Log cabin, nine patch, rail fence, half square triangles, sawtooth star and churn dash are traditional blocks, pieced by quilters for well over a century and free for anyone to use.
